Unraveling the origin of glucose mediated disparate proliferation dynamics of cancer stem cells

Cancer stem cells (CSCs) often switch on their self-renewal programming aggressively to cause a relapse of cancer. Intriguingly, glucose triggers the proliferation propensities in CSCs by controlling expression key transcription factor-like Nanog. However, factors that critically govern this glucose-stimulated dynamics remain elusive. Herein, proposing mathematical model glucose-mediated Nanog regulation, we showed differential behavior and cell-type similar can be explained considering experimentally observed varied levels positive (STAT3) negative (p53) regulators Our reconciles various experimental observations predicts ways fine-tune these cell types context-dependent manner. In future, modeling insights will useful developing improved therapeutic strategies get rid harmful CSCs.
